John Ward

My continual journey in Martial arts Started when I saw a flyer for “Blood Sport Fighting” in Mike’s Olympic Gym back in 1995 when I was a competitive teen age Body builder. After training under Gary Miles (American Style Kickboxer and Karate) AKC (Ralph Gracie BJJ school and Bart Vale Japanese Shoot fighting, Sakasem, Ponch from Belmeade Boxing) I fought in the first “Vale tudo” (only gloves and mouth pieces, you could even headbutt then) in Va. Beach Beating the 155lbs champion out of Miami. Earned a Blue Belt in BJJ. And trained alongside fellow teammates Rick McCoy and David Womack. We worked heavily on all aspects BJJ. Sombo, Shoot fighting, Boxing and Muay Thai.

Early 2000’s till present. I was one of the Striking and MMA Coaches for David Womack with Richmond Fight club and Total Victory. Where I helped train striking with other great names David Silopath and Seph Smith, Dwayne DZO Shelton. And for the past 13 years I was one of the Striking Coaches for Rick McCoy at MMAI sister school to Mongrel. I had the absolute pleasure of working and training tenacious
hard hitters like Michael “Tailor made” Wade, Donny “One Speed” Ooton, Tyus Thomas and David “Shotgun” Gladfelter. I have a love for guiding people through the tough times to succeed in the goals that they want in all levels of their martial arts desires, from the novice to the Pros. I enjoy using the talents God gave me to bestow unto others.

Mongrel has stoked the fire to teach. I love the family atmosphere that has everyone wanting to help each other. Top notch guys and gals and JB is a salt of the earth Practioner and owner who only wants the best for his Mongrel Kennel family.
